Nicola North spent her South African childhood climbing trees, riding horses, and living an outdoor lifestyle. After her parents moved the family to England, she spent hours drawing while listening to Bananarama and A-ha on her prized Sony Walkman. Creativity became her escape, and has remained so for decades.
Creativity has also fueled her graphic design career. She worked for a leading design studio in York, England, before launching her own business in 2006. She has always made original thought and creative innovation her priority.
In search of adventure, Nicola landed in the Comox Valley in 2008, with her husband, four-year-old twins, and a cat. She felt an immediate connection with the mountains, forests, oceans, and rivers, and was inspired to pick up her pencils, pens, and paintbrushes again. Her love for the landscape is reflected in her art.
Her artistic voice has evolved organically, quietly, and steadily over time. Joy for her is found in small details, unexpected patterns, and ever-changing light.
