Mathew Wanbon is a photographer who recently moved to the Comox Valley. His work focuses on creating and sharing stories about action sports, adventure, and mountain culture. Wanbon grew up in the Okanagan and spent his youth and early 20s pursuing a dream of professional snowboarding. When he wasn’t riding, he was out holding a camera and pointing it at his friends.
In 2018, he stumbled his way into writing an eight-page story in Snowboard Canada Magazine, which included several of his photos, one of which was a two-page spread. This event was a catalyst that shifted his direction and identity from athlete to photographer.
Since then, Wanbon has been published in several magazines and has worked with clients to create authentic imagery for marketing purposes in the outdoor industry. He hopes that his love for action sports shines through his photography, inspiring others to get out and play.
