Richard Mravik was born in 1973 in the city of Nove Zamky, Slovakia. Of Hungarian descent, he was noted from a very early age as a gifted artist.
Richard came to Canada in 1999 on a commission to paint wildlife for the publisher Mill Pond Press. Travelling and camping through the provinces, he quickly realized that the natural beauty of Canada’s landscapes and wildlife were a perfect fit for his artistic sensibilities.
After almost 30 years of experience, Richard has an instantly recognizable style. He can spend months on each of his one-of-a-kind oil paintings to create incredible depth, shadows, and sparkling light. His work has been shown and sold in galleries worldwide.
He lives with his wife in Courtenay, where he is inspired by the dramatic natural landscapes and diverse wildlife.
