Laurie is a “late in life” painter who moved to the Comox Valley after retiring in 2015 from a busy career as a family physician. Art has become a full-time passion for Laurie, whose intuitive abstract and abstracted landscape paintings are highly influenced by the place she now lives in and loves.
Colour and texture are the language of Laurie’s acrylic/mixed media work, which has been shown at both juried and community shows on Vancouver Island. She participates in Comox Valley’s rich and supportive art community through her involvement with Pearl Ellis Gallery, both as a participant in shows and as a volunteer organizing workshops for artists.
Laurie is fortunate to have a spacious, bright 400-square-foot studio looking out over Kin Beach, which allows her to create large canvases while hearing the cry of the eagles and barking sea lions. Walking the beach with a camera and a cup of tea breaks up the day and brings inspiration.
