Born and raised on British Columbia’s West Coast, Christian grew up with a deep appreciation for nature, thanks to his outdoors-loving parents. After a year in University of Victoria’s Visual Arts program, he became a biologist and spent many years working in this field and as a consultant, adventure guide, and expedition leader from the Arctic to the Antarctic
Christian uses strong colours and lines to evoke a sense of temperature and movement in his work. His pieces are made up of many layers of acrylic paint, which he adds to the canvas without shading, so the final piece appears to be blended when viewed as a whole—but, when examined closely, every small piece reveals layers of contoured lines.
He paints to express his appreciation for the wildlife, landscapes, and seascapes of our beautiful coast and through his work, he hopes to inspire others to stop and appreciate the power of the natural world.
