Of her most recent exhibition, Flight Lines, she says: “Movement has always been my life; I love cycling, running, skiing, and mountaineering. When I broke my knee in 2025, I was devastated. Housebound, I felt like a caged bird.”
Watching birds through her window gave her a feeling of freedom, and her spouse suggested that she transform that feeling into line—perhaps take up carving lino while her knee healed.
Tashi began drawing and then carving birds in lino. “I love the sweeping motion of each bird—the aerial lift, the power of flight,” she says.
“The action of carving was new for me and so satisfying. I loved creating all the textures for each print.
“My leg has healed, but I continue to feel the flowing movement of birds every time I carve and print.”
