Tom Powell is a photographer, storyteller, and adventurer currently living in Cumberland. His images—shot on 35mm and medium format cameras—capture authentic moments, informed by his own experiences on the west coast of Vancouver Island with friends.
Powell feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for various outdoor apparel brands in New Zealand and Canada, including Icebreaker and TenTree. Earlier in his career, he travelled and lived in a van, surfing and riding bikes, which allowed him to build an outdoor travel portfolio. His work has been published in print and online magazines as well as in two books, The Outsiders: New Outdoor Creativity and Grand Bikepacking Journeys.
Focusing on connection and storytelling, Powell’s work aims to inspire us to live life outdoors and celebrate the joy that this brings. He currently spends a large part of his time documenting his bikepacking adventures.
