ABUELO’S CORN TORTILLAS

A local business grows by staying true to their origins.

Handmade, gluten free and using 100 per cent certified-organic ingredients, Abuelo’s tortillas are a delicious, authentically Mexican product. This family-run business takes pride in a high standard. They use white and blue corn and traditional family recipes. Abuelo’s presses the perfect tortilla and are based right here in the Comox Valley.

After moving to British Columbia from Mexico with the intent of opening a restaurant, the Miller family instead developed a growing reputation through sales of their handmade product at local stores such as Edible Island in Courtenay. They have also maintained a presence at the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market. Here, you can find the family pressing fresh dough with the same tortilla press used in their production facility—then cooking them fresh on the griddle.

“We’re not sales people,” says Harvey Miller. “For the most part the tortillas sell themselves.”
