A recently retired architect and former art teacher, Alora Griffin has explored drawing, acrylic painting, ceramics, and photography, but has focused exclusively on watercolour painting for more than a decade. She says, “I like the accidental effects water creates on paper and try to incorporate them into my paintings.” In recent years, she has developed a limited palette of transparent colours which she blends and layers to create new colours on the paper.
Alora seeks to capture the beauty and spirit of the earth in her work. During the COVID shutdown, she took long walks on the seashore around the Comox Valley and was inspired to create a series of paintings of the area’s salt marshes as they changed colour throughout the seasons.
Alora’s work has been shown at the Pearl Ellis Gallery, Artful : The Gallery, and ARTWRX Studio Gallery. As a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, she exhibits her paintings at the FCA Gallery on Vancouver’s Granville Island. She also teaches drawing and watercolour classes.
