Featured Photographer: Kennedy Armstrong

Born in Comox, Kennedy Armstrong is a 26-year-old mixed-media artist with many artistic and creative passions. Her current pursuits include photography, designing and tufting custom rugs, drawing and painting, and creating woven beadwork on a loom. She’s also working toward a Red Seal certification in welding.

“From as far back as I can remember,” she says, “I was always running around outside with a camera in my hand,” from disposable cameras to a point-and- shoot Nikon Coolpix she received at age 12 to the Sony A7iii she purchased during the pandemic.

Her professional portfolio to date includes portraits, friends’ engagements and weddings, commercial work, and motorsports. Recently her photos were published in Skye Magazine (“Colourful World,” featuring another Comox local, Mackenzie Sloan).

“My creative process is very organic,” she says. “I think it’s important to have a loose idea of what you want visually, but also to let go of rigidity and expectation, and allow the moment to unfold—to allow for playfulness, curiosity, and whimsy to fill in the blanks.”
