Dave Jackson is a self-taught photographer who works under the name jackson photografix. He began shooting professionally in NYC in 1997; since then, his work has been extensively published, exhibited, and seen online throughout North America.
Inspired by the work of both the celebrated photographer/printmaker Jennifer Dickson, member of the Order of Canada, and his mentor and friend, the photographer and School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO) instructor John Hewett Hallum, jackson added infrared landscapes to his repertoire in 2010.
This type of photography uses lighting from the infrared spectrum—obtained through filters for film or a converted sensor for digital—which produces dramatic and otherworldly quality. Infrared landscapes often feature leaves and vegetation in white or light gray, with black sky and water.
A recently arrived resident of Royston, jackson is exploring the vastness of Vancouver Island and capturing the endless beauty and rich diversity of the landscapes in this magnificent rainforest, especially here in the Comox Valley.
