Perseids Meteor Shower

This is an excellent year for the Perseids! Produced by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are famous for producing many bright meteors. The shower runs from July 17 to August 24 but peaks on the night of August 12th and the morning of the 13th.

During the peak there will be a new moon with no light to interfere with the show. Be prepared for what could be an impressive display.

In the Comox Valley and Strathcona region, the best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Perseus, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
