This is an excellent year for the Perseids. There will be no moonlight to interfere with the show so be prepared for what could be an impressive display.
Produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are famous for producing many bright meteors. The shower runs from July 17 to August 24. It peaks on the night of August 12th and the morning of the 13th.
In the Comox Valley and Strathcona region, the best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Perseus, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
