Used by the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples, among others, this name comes from the ripe strawberries ready to be gathered at this time. The Haida call it Berries Ripen Moon and the Anishinaabe call it the Blooming Moon for the flowering season. The Tlingit use the term Birth Moon, referring to the time when certain animals are born in their region.
