Isa was born on an off-grid homestead and grew up on a wooden ketch. When not writing fiction on a mechanical typewriter, he’s often found tinkering with open-source software or touring in a folk band. Isa is part of the nomadic tribe of multi-instrumentalist songwriters (most of whom are siblings) that make up Vancouver Island’s the Awakeneers, offering genre-bending contemporary folk music. Segueing from a foot-stomping fiddle tune to a hip-hop guide to mindfulness, or a meditative love song to Mother Earth, their music centres around honest vocals with rich harmonies and diverse acoustic instrumentation.
