Janine Zust is a Swiss-Canadian designer, illustrator, and author, as well as a mother of two. For nearly three decades, she’s worked in product and graphic design, gradually expanding her creative world to include writing and illustrating. “As a designer, I am driven by the pursuit of evolution and the beauty within change,” she says.
With a deep affinity for the outdoors, she is drawn to the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, from the majestic mountains to the captivating allure of the ocean. She recently wrote and illustrated Beneath the Shimmering Surface: A Children’s Story About Addiction and Hope. She created this story—based on a the deeply personal experience of navigating addiction within her family—to offer children a gentle, age-appropriate way to understand addiction and the complex emotions that come with it.
Janine currently lives in the Comox Valley with her two children, where she continues designing, creating, and supporting open, compassionate conversations around healing and resilience.
